“The more we know of the past, the more we know of ourselves,” the Scottish fur trader Angus McDonald wrote in his ledger in Montana in the 1870s. Alix Christie’s novel THE SHINING MOUNTAINS, a saga set against the backdrop of American colonial expansion in the Rocky Mountain West, is based on her own family history. 

A direct descendant of Angus’s brother Duncan, she consulted extensively with her Scots-Native cousins and the cultural committees of both the Nez Perce and Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes in order to write this story of one blended family caught in the crossfire of Manifest Destiny.

Alix will read from and discuss with Patricia Clarke this epic true story of the indigenous and fur trade worlds, based on extensive tribal and family research.

Alix Christie is an American-Canadian writer based in Berlin. Her debut novel, GUTENBERG’S APPRENTICE, the story of the making of the Gutenberg Bible, was a finalist for the VCU Cabell First Novelist Award.
