“The phrase “out of the blue” means without warning, completely unexpectedly. It is from a bolt out of, also from, the blue, denoting a sudden and unexpected event, a complete surprise, with reference to the unlikelihood of a thunderbolt coming from a clear blue sky.”
My imagery over the years has often been the result of happenstance, situations I didn’t plan for or expect, but which prodded me to use my photographic voice to express my feelings about the experience. There have also been several photographic series over the years which I imagined and set out to photograph, such as the Facing Ourselves portraits of migration and community in Italy and Carpinteria.
Out of the Blue.
The pre-dawn morning and late night light during this past winter and spring transform the landscapes and skyscapes you see here. For me these photographs serve as a reminder that even in some of life’s darkest moments, there is always light and beauty to be found. I am so pleased to be able to share them with you now.
